Ice Log 16th May 2008
May 16, 2008 | Filed Under On the Ice |
Co-ordinates: 66° 18′ 989″ N - 44° 02′ 715″ W
27 kilometres covered today, 280 since the start. Both Alan and Peter are feeling strong. Peter’s eye is a lot better. It has been a steady uphill walk and the wind has turned 180 degrees. It is now southwesterly so behind them. Tiny ice particles have been blowing around all day like little crystals. They saw one bird today - a bunting again - this one seemed to have been blown off course and was lost.
Alan and Peter realise that for the next few days it will be a steady slog and less eventful. They will be using the opportunity to make videos and to send special messages.
We have had confirmation that BBC Spotlight want to make a live link up by the satellite phone on Monday at 3pm UK time.
So the publicity is increasing and we encourage any followers of Feet of Green to raise awareness with press, TV and radio wherever possible - emphasising the education and schools links.
NOTE: It is 8 years today that Alan Chambers and Charlie Paton became the first British adventurers to reach the geographic north pole unassisted.

Hi Alan and Peter
Great to read and hear that you’ve reached the summit - a major milestone, well done. I joined with you and had a great bangers and mash meal with beans (can’t forget them)!
Hopefully, the weather will be a bit kinder to you and give you the opportunity to make good progress.
I would also like to send you best wishes from all the Essex Scouts, as I know you told me that Peter is involved locally.
Congratulations and keep safe.
Best wishes.
Paul Stennett
