Ice Log - 19th May 2008

May 19, 2008 | Filed Under On the Ice |

Co-ordinates: 66° 06′ 602″ N - 42° 19′ 847″ W

Report taken at 2030.

22 km completed.

They are153 km to the next checkpoint.

Started out with bad visibility and thick cloud in three or four layers. The terrain is more flat but it is hard to get a rhythm in skiing because of the high amount of stratugi - so you know you are going downhill but it doesn’t fee like it. They have got enough food and fuel.

They have stopped today to conduct a live 40 minute interview with the BBC and after that there was more thick cloud and then a then a full halo around the sun then cloud and they haven’t seen the sun since.

They have a lot of communications work to do today and will be sending video footage through to BBC Spotlight. Tomorrow we are hoping to have BBC Points West come into another school in Bristol and give coverage for PETER’S BIRTHDAY (don’t forget to wish him happy birthday… I won’t say how old he is but there are two 4s in it).

Al has changed his socks today after 7 days.

Richard

Happy Birthday Pete. If nothing else this is your most unusual one. Whatever you do don’t light a candle for every year or you’ll melt the ice cap! ;-) Have a good day. All the best mate.
