Today Alan and Peter have made good progress against very tight deadlines in trying to reach the sea ice in time to meet the Inuit fishermen who they hope will take them on their exit from the sea ice to a helicopter lift.

It has been very tough with continued storms and ice that had melted underfoot making the skis very ’sticky’ and requiring adjustments in terms of the skins (see video clip on ski skins).

At around midday they reported having 35 km left to reach the sea ice.

We have been trying to get communications with the Inuit dog team to see if we can confirm arrangements for the rendezvous on the 25th.

They are in good spirits but both have very sore feet and very blistered lips.
