Wootton Bassett Wind Turbine Challenge
May 5, 2008 | Filed Under Education |
Wootton Bassett School is a Go4It school and seized on the opportunity to link to Feet of Green when we offered up the challenge of designing a wind turbine which could be used to recharge the portable music players used by Alan and Peter on their adventures. This was to be as compact, portable and lightweight as possible. The Feet of Green team were delighted to see the design and construction team turn up at Bristol International Airport to present their prototype design to Alan and Peter. The adventurers were engaged in a detailed conversation about the application of their invention. Dr Richard Hale from Feet of Green said:
‘I had a detailed discussion with the lads and was extemely impressed by both their enthusiasm in taking on the challenge and by their level of thinking. We discussed how they had approached the challenge as a team, with one leading on the design, one on the technology and one on the construction. I said this reflected the key aspects of any major technological or product innovation in the business world and we even discussed the ideas of patenting their intellectual property. I am hopeful we can help test their design on the ice and, who knows, there could be a real invention which comes out of this of benefit to the adventure world. ‘
