Good questions… here are my answers on behalf of the team…

1 - Alan has seen a polar bear - it followed him for several weeks on the North Pole once but did not get too close and so caused no harm.

2 - Alan and Peter have just placed the order for their food supplies - most of it will be dehydrated - so they have to melt ice into water and then add the water to make the meal - they are taking lots of Ready Brek as we were given some as a donation from the company. Also they eat deydrated food including:
    TUNA PASTA
COD & POTATOES IN CREAM SAUCE
    SWEET SOUR CHICKEN
    SCRAMBLED EGGS WITH ONION
    VEGETABLE TIKKA
    VEGETABLE BOLOGNESE
    SPAGHETTI BOLOGNESE
    CHILLI CON CARNE
    CHICKEN TIKKA
    CHICKEN KORMA
    PASTA PROVENCE

3 - Alan liked being at the North Pole so much that he went back for several years and he took other people there such as business men and women. Mind you for the big expedition he did in 2000 he nearly starved to death because he and Charlie had run out of food.

4 - It is very hard for Alan and Peter to walk with the sledges but they have trained very hard for several years building up the strength and stamina in their legs and ‘core strength’ around their middle. The key muscles have built up ‘muscle memory’ so when they come to the expedition they are ready for the challenge. Immagine how hard it is though to drag the sledge up hills - for much of the journey in Greenland they will be climbing higher and higher above sea level.

5 - Animals - they don’t want to see an Arctic fox - even though they look lovely they usually mean there is a polar bear nearby - and even though polar bears are lovely to look at you don’t want to meet a hungry one!

6 - Being afraid - Alan and Peter are normal guys - they will have the usual fears that we all would have when facing possible danger - but they ensure they plan to overcome any risks which they could face. For instance this weekend they are going to the Arctic (a place called Spitsbergen - check it out on the web/google) where they will be practising crossing the crevasses (the big gaps in the ice with huge drops below). This means they will be ready to work as a good team when they face the crevasses in Greenland.

6 - You bet it is a relief for them to get out of the cold - but some people love the cold and they keep going back to the Arctic or the Antarctic because they are such places of natural beauty - look out for the photographs they will be sending back and we will be showing them on the website.

All the best - keep in touch -
    Richard, Alan and Pete.
