“I was very excited to hear and read about the Feet of Green initiative. The team are to be congratulated on their fortitude and bravery in undertaking this 600km journey across Greenland, unaided by dogs or machines.

I believe the most important part of this initiative is not the journey itself but the inspiration that can be given to thousands of schoolchildren. To learn about the journey, the green issues, carbon footprints and the fortitude of man hopefully will prove invaluable.”

Councillor Royston Griffey, Lord Mayor of Bristol

“Knowing Alan as I do he will be really focused to endure the challenges ahead of him and his Team. Somerset CCC wish him and all his Team the very best of success in this project.
Alan worked closely with the Squad in our successful 2007 season and I feel his experiences through this adventure will again provide a transferable learning to benefit our professional sport.”

Andy Hurry, Head Coach, Somerset County Cricket Club

“HTI, through the Go4it initiative, are delighted to be partnered with the Feet of Green Expedition particularly given the very visionary and challenging approach the team are taking in encouraging physical and intellectual adventure and the active engagement of environmental issues right across the educational spectrum. We fully endorse the view of the Feet of Green team that if you really want to do something, are motivated, committed and receive the necessary support then the achievement of desired goals is absolutely possible. This view sums up the attitude and aspirations HTI has for Go4it Schools and students, hence our partnership with Feet of Green. We look forward to working with both the schools and the Feet of Green team on establishing activities and involvement that inspires and motivates young people to have ambition to make a difference to their lives and others.”

Liz Formby, ‘Go4it’ Manager HTI

“The Haberdashers’ Monmouth Schools have a long-standing outreach programme for local primary schools. Primary schools are invited in for a range of workshops from science and music to sport and drama. We felt that ‘Feet of Green’ would be an excellent talk for primary school children as polar climate is a topic within the Key Stage 2 curriculum and this could be combined with a speaker capable of motivating and inspiring children to achieve things they may not have thought themselves capable of. Many of our younger pupils see global warming and the on-going damage to the environment as a major issue to be addressed by their generation. I think the follow-up exposure of live links with someone witnessing first hand the changes to the ice cap will be fascinating for them - they will feel that they are part of something much bigger, a connection that a text book alone could not give them.”

Sarah Lee, Director of Marketing & PR, Haberdashers’ Monmouth Schools

“I would like to commend Alan for his inspiring leadership and excellent judgement. He was an outstanding Royal Marine and has since gone on to even more impressive feats of record-breaking endurance. Alan’s adventuring exploits are ledgendary within the Corps and since leaving he has proved many times over that his ‘Commando spirit’ is alive and well. Bon voyage.”

Steve Richards, Lt Colonel Royal Marines

“Williams Lea is proud to support the Feet of Green Project and the efforts of Alan Chambers MBE and his team to raise awareness for environmental issues.

Here at Williams Lea, we are focusing on reducing our own environmental impacts and those of our clients as part of our ongoing programme of Corporate Responsibility and a commitment to the sustainability of the solutions we provide.

Feet of Green takes environmental education into schools in South Wales in order to touch a generation of future business leaders an idea I found so inspiring I was happy to accept the role of Chairman.

In this, our inaugural year, Alan Chambers and Peter Herbert will be crossing Greenland unassisted, a courageous endeavour that I am sure will be just the start of an ongoing and highly successful campaign to engage the future innovators of the environmental agenda.

I wish Feet of Green all the very best and encourage the business and educational community to support the team all the way.

Tim Griffiths, Group CEO, Williams Lea
